Sun Life Hong Kong Limited announced the launch of a patient-centric premium healthcare ecosystem that links its insurance platform with three leading private hospitals in the city.
eSun Pro concierge service rolls out
The initiative, called eSun Pro, is delivered through HealthMutual Group’s medical-concierge service. It promises end-to-end support, from pre-treatment planning and resource matching to administrative assistance throughout a patient’s journey.
“Healthcare sustainability will be one of Hong Kong’s most important societal priorities in the coming decade. When individuals lack financial certainty about their healthcare choices, it can delay treatment decisions, increase anxiety, and place additional strain on the wider healthcare system,” said Dr. Christine Yeung, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Life and Health at Sun Life Hong Kong. The partnership brings together Joyce Smith, Regional Chief Commercial Officer of IHH Healthcare North Asia and Chief Commercial Officer of Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong, alongside Clement Lam, Chief Executive Officer of Sun Life Hong Kong, to align industry perspectives on sustainable healthcare solutions.
CUHK Medical Centre leads digital health
CUHK Medical Centre is a non-profit private teaching hospital wholly owned by The Chinese University of Hong Kong. It operates as Hong Kong’s first digitalised smart hospital, using advanced technologies to improve clinical outcomes and operational efficiency while offering transparent, affordable package fees. The hospital also supports the CUHK Faculty of Medicine by translating academic research into clinical applications, bridging gaps between private and public healthcare systems.
Through the alliance, Sun Life can route policyholders to hospitals that match clinical needs and financial preferences, while the hospitals gain access to a broader insured client base. KC Chan, Founder of HealthMutual Group, oversees the concierge platform’s operational design, ensuring seamless integration between insurer and hospital workflows.
“Patients today expect not only excellent clinical outcomes but also greater transparency, clarity and support before treatment begins,” said Dr. KL Chung, Chief Executive Officer of CUHK Medical Centre. The initiative aligns with the hospital’s long-standing commitment to transparent pricing and patient-centered care, allowing individuals to evaluate treatment pathways with full cost visibility.
Gleneagles Hospital brings integrated care
Gleneagles Hong Kong, part of the IHH Healthcare multinational network, is a multi-specialty private teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Hong Kong. It offers integrated care through its hospital, primary-care clinics, specialist centres and ambulatory services, and runs a laboratory and pharmacy network. The hospital’s affiliation with HKU Health System enables it to introduce novel treatment protocols developed through collaborative research initiatives.
“Through this collaboration with Sun Life Hong Kong, we look forward to combining our clinical expertise with concierge support services provided by HMG to help patients better understand their availab,” said Dr. Kenneth Tsang, Regional Chief Executive Officer of IHH Healthcare North Asia and CEO of Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong.
HKSH Medical Group comprises Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital, HKSH Healthcare, HKSH Eastern Medical Centre, HKSH Cancer Centre and an institute for professional development. The group continuously introduces cutting-edge medical technologies and emphasizes fee transparency through regular internal audits. Its Institute for Innovation & Professional Development advances the development of healthcare talents through education and training for local and mainland academic institutions and medical specialists across various disciplines.
“Continuous enhancement of clinical outcomes and treatment precision is the cornerstone of quality healthcare,” said Dr. Joseph Chan, Chief Medical Officer of HKSH Medical Group and Deputy Medical Superintendent of Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital. The collaboration with Sun Life further integrates HKSH’s technological advancements with patient-centric financial planning.
Enhanced Coordination and Financial Planning
Patient-centric referrals and second opinions
Clients accessing the eSun Pro platform receive specialist referrals that are matched to their clinical needs, along with the option to obtain second-medical opinions before any procedure is scheduled. The concierge service also arranges appointments with senior clinicians, streamlining the scheduling process across the three partner hospitals. This coordination reduces wait times and ensures patients engage with specialists whose expertise aligns with their conditions.
Real-time insurance benefit integration
Insurance benefit consultations are integrated into the pre-treatment workflow, allowing policyholders to understand expected reimbursement levels and any remaining out-of-pocket costs. By delivering budget assessments in advance, the service reduces the need for large upfront payments and cuts down on paperwork, giving patients greater confidence to proceed with their chosen treatment plans. The platform also provides real-time updates on insurance coverage eligibility, minimizing surprises during claims processing.
Broader Reach and Collaborative Opportunities
Sun Life is extending its healthcare support network beyond the initial trio of institutions, aiming to cover additional facilities throughout Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area. The partnership leverages the combined expertise of academic researchers, clinical innovators, and technology providers to broaden the selection of high-quality treatment options available to insured members. HealthMutual Group’s platform is designed to scale efficiently, accommodating future expansions without compromising service quality.
